I began having Alexander Technique lessons in 1996 to address increasing back/shoulder pain and RSI when working as a Senior Quality Engineering Manager in the automotive industry both in England and Japan. I associated this with my use of computers for long hours each day. At one point I could not lift a book or type without severe pain.
My interest intensified as I came to realise that it was not simply how I was using computers, but that I had developed harmful habits form childhood on and had a general lack of poise in approaching all of the activities in my life. This was negatively affecting both my health and my performance. Following more lessons my health and happiness improved (see before & after photos). I can honestly say that I am happier and healthier aged 39 than I was in my early 20’s.
I began to understand the far-reaching implications of the Alexander Technique and the need for it in society today. Hence, I completed 3 years training to be a teacher at a STAT (Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique) accredited Training School. I subscribe to the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, am fully insured and have a clear enhanced CRB disclosure.
I now teach private clients aged 8 to 86 and am passionate about helping clients achieve their goals with the Alexander Technique. I have given presentations and workshops for the British Medical Association Employee Awareness Day, House of Commons Parliamentary Committee in conjunction with BackCare Charity speaking on the subject of addressing back pain in school children (RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) Action and British Polio Fellowship Awareness Days and have supported National Exhibitions such as ‘The Back Show’ at Olympia.
I am committed to Continuing Professional Development and positively contribute towards the professional society, STAT.
When not teaching I apply the Alexander Technique in my daily life which includes playing the trumpet, in church, a dance band and orchestra; keeping fit – currently marathon training, as well as being an active trustee of a charity delivering urban re-generation. I very much enjoy art, music and travel.
